The filtration of the swimming pool is responsible for the heavy part of the treatment.
The filter is responsible for the heavy part of the cleaning removing the suspensed impurities on the water turning it more shiny and crystalline.
In spite of minimizing a lot of the work needed to take care of the swimming pool, to keep the filter running perfectly it’s necessary to backwash the sand periodically.
Many people don’t know what the Backwash (or Wash) function from the swimming pool filter is used for and that is why we decided to do this brief text.
In some filters it’s called Backwash, in others it is called simply Wash.
Every sand filter has this function which is responsible to keep up the efficieny of the filtration.
With no more delaying, let’s go directly to the subject…
How to backwash the swimming pool filter?
Before anything, turn off the filtration system.
You cannot move the lever of the filter with the system working.
After turning the pump motor off we can put the lever of the filter in the position “Backwash”.
If your filter doesn’t have this position, look for the option “Wash”.
Open the register of the filter that throws the water to the sewers.
As the backwashing throws some water away, this register NEEDS to be open.
Turn the pump motor on and if your filter has a visor in the sewer pipe, keep and eye on it.
Observe that the water will come out very dirty inicially and with time it will become cleaner.
When the water starts coming out crystalline in the visor, turn the pump motor off.
If your filter doesn’t have a visor, observe the end of the sewer pipe, if possible.
If it isn’t possible to see the water coming out, just turn the pump motor off after 2 minutes of backwashing.
6After turning the pump motor off, change the lever of the filter to the position “Rinse”, or “Pre-filter”, and turn the pump motor on again for about 30 seconds.
Turn the pump motor off again, return the lever to the position filter and it’s done!
Your filter is already clean and with the performance restored.
How often must I clean the filter?
The backwash must be done every time the intern pressure of the filter is reaching its peak and this can bee seen though its manometer.
Doing the backwash every time it’s necessary and keeping the chemical balance of the water can give the peace you need to enjoy your swimming pool whenever you want!
